RedMed Urgent Clinic Launches “The Heart of A Champion” Challenge
(Oxford, MS) RedMed Urgent Clinic is launching “The Heart of A Champion” Challenge during the month of September. “We care about Mississippi families and we want to encourage folks to get moving toward better health,” said Cathy Wilburn, a medical provider for RedMed Urgent Clinic.
According to the America Health Rankings (1990-2013), Mississippi ranked #50 in the nation. While smoking has decreased 8.3% in the past year, more than a half million adults are still smoking in the state. Almost 690,000 adults are not exercising.
“These are concerning statistics. Yet, there are simple things that can be done,” stated Cathy Wilburn, a medical provider for RedMed Urgent Clinic. They challenge everyone to The Heart of A Champion Challenge, which is a “4-E” commitment to:
- Eat right
- End smoking
- Evaluate Your Health
“As medical professionals, we can remind folks to eat right, exercise and end smoking, but we can truly help evaluate a person’s health and make strides to improve it. Beyond just a physical, anyone over 20 should have a cholesterol check every five years,” says Wilburn. “We know that high cholesterol can lead to heart disease or stroke, which are the leading cause of death in the United States.”
During September, adults can stop by any RedMed location or visit redmedclinic.com and sign up for the challenge to win weekly prizes and have complimentary health screenings for blood sugar and blood pressure. RedMed Urgent Clinic in Batesville, Pontotoc and Oxford provides services for injuries, physical and occupational medicine along with common procedures, tests and treatments.
